Change lifestyle, attitude to keep up with toddler

Between the sleepless nights, spit-up and countless diaper changes, new parents quickly realize that chasing after their little speedsters is no easy feat.

With only a few lifestyle changes, your baby’s exciting milestones don’t have to be accompanied by crazy days, puffy eyes and fast food dinners. It’s possible to maximize your energy as you chase after your running, dancing and playing little mover.

Buying breast milk online, a new trend for low-supply?

I can safely say I know the pain of not having enough milk for my baby. I really struggled with low-supply with my first child.  I spent hours in the middle of the night trying to “power pump” to increase my supply. Then I would also pump right after my baby was done nursing, all to help increase my supply.  I researched galactagogues, acupuncture and a host of natural remedies all in the hopes of increasing my supply. Which in the end I was never able to do. Eventually with a tiny baby that wasn’t gaining weight fast enough I had to give in and buy formula. I was unable to produce enough milk on my own to feed my baby. Read more >>

My 3 year old has run amok!

We’ve tried everything that we can think of. Lavender baths, lotion massages, lavender essential oil on the souls of her feet. Toys no longer reside in her bedroom (with the exception of her teddy bear) and books are no longer allowed in there either. Read more >>

“It’s the End of the World as We Know It

*FLASH!* One MISSISSIPPI…Two MISSISSIPPI…Three MISSISSIPPI…

**HOUSE SHAKING BANG!**

Mom, why is thundering so loud?” says my 3 year old quivering under the dining room table, little knowing that she’s confusing a thunderstorm in Colorado with an earthquake in So. Cal.

Urban Farming, am I nuts?

Last week, my family & I began our newest journey by adding 6 baby chickens to our crazy household.  I am insane? Yes, absolutely.

I would have to be to have the kids that I have, and still want more. To do home daycare for a living so that I can stay home with my kiddos. I am crazy and what’s more, I like it. Read more >>

Mothers Day can be difficult

Here’s the script:

Me: Mom, what do you want for Mothers Day?
My Mom: Respect from my children.
Me: No, seriously, what do you want for Mothers Day?
My Mom: Nothing, just good behavior and respect from my children. Read more >>

Diaper sizing: How do you know?

I’ve changed more diapers than I think even the Lord could count, between my 3 kids, my 4 younger siblings, & various & sundry daycare kids. I have perpetually dehydrated hands that I don’t think copious amounts of ANY lotion known to man could repair the damage that I’ve done to them by washing my hands every 5 seconds. I think, however, that this qualifies me to address the issue of diaper sizes.

Take time for yourselves, Moms

I’m not saying, “Remember to take time for yourself.” I’m saying, “TAKE time for yourself.” As the wisest muppet ever created said, “Do or do not, there is no try.”

As a working mom, I often forget to take time for myself. I get too busy, too wrapped up in my kids’, husband, household business and neglect myself. What happens next? Nervous breakdown. Anxiety attacks. Resentment, anger, dehydration, & a myriad of other things that I don’t want to go into.

The joys of baby-proofing from a tired mom’s perspective

© Babyfirstheadgear.comI’ll be perfectly honest, I hate baby-proofing. If I wasn’t required to by daycare regulations, my house would be minimally baby-proofed. I’m talking gates to keep my crawling baby from falling down the stairs, plug covers to keep my Dennis-the-Menace-3-year-old-girl from frying her brain, locks on the cabinets with the chemicals, and a catchy thingie on the knife drawer. Basic things to keep the kids from killing themselves and that would be it. There are tons of things that you can do to baby-proof your house. Literally hundreds of products are available to protect kids from themselves.
